The Lotterys Plus One was a very interesting book; no other book that I've read had 4 co-parents (PapaDum, PopCorn, CardaMom, and MaxiMum) AND had 7 kids; biological and adopted, (Oak Owen, Brian Bree [previously Briar] Sumac Portia, Aspen Elspeth, Wood, Catalpa, and the oldest, Sic) When PopCorn's father, who's 82, accidentally burns his house down (and his eyebrows) he is brought to live in Camelottery, and now there is 12 people in this house, plus pets. (Topaz, Diamond, Opal, and Slate, who is Aspen's rat) Maybe its his long journey from Faro, Yukon to Toronto... Or maybe it was a huge family compared to Faro's 500 people population, that's making him so grumpy, that he earned his nickname GRUMPS (that the kids call him behind his back) Sumac, who is 9-years and Grumps' guide, is not ready to give up her room... How will Grumps adjust to his new life, and how will the Lotterys adjust to him?
My Thoughts
I had read half of this book about two years ago, but I had kept getting mixed up with the names, etc... This time, I read it a lot more carefully, and remembered the characters. I found this book very interesting because of the slang, and the different events that happened during this book. I am very excited to read the next book, "The Lotterys More or Less," and waiting for it to appear in the school library :)
Thanks for all the reviews Aadya! This really helps me select what books to read at the library!
