by: Alan Gratz
Refugee. This word alone brings sad thoughts. But, what is even sadder, is if you are one. War or Natural Disasters in your hometown. Author Alan Gratz, brings 3 fictional characters, Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud. All in different time periods and from different cultures and countries. Josef's story takes place in Nazi Germany in 1939 during WW2. Isabel's story is during the Cuban Protests in 1994 in Havana, Cuba. Mahmoud's story is in Syria in 2015 during the Syrian Civil War. He tells their amazing stories from them moving from country to country trying to settle down. This book is extremely fascinating and you wouldn't want to put this down.
My Thoughts
Refugee was one book in my class library that I knew I didn't want to read. I didn't know anything about, but just hearing the book title, "Refugee", I'd made up my opinion. But one Friday, I had nothing to read for the weekend. So, just 2 minutes before dismissal, I quickly picked up the book, and decided to have an open mind. On the bus I read, for half an hour in bed I read that book, Refugee. It was so good, I couldn't believe that I had made up my mind without even knowing what it was.
One of the best books ever written. Amazing review!!
