It started on Eventide night, the last day of the Age. The day Morrigan Crow was born. If you are born on Eventide night, you are cursed and destined to die on the following Eventide, at 12 years old on your birthday. Being cursed, in Jackalfax, will give opportunities for others to blame wrongdoings on the cursed children. Whether it is broken hip, the kitchen cat dying, spoilt flowers in the garden, Morrigan Crow is blamed. With her father, a famous politician of Wintersea, he reluctantly lets her come to Bid Day, where kids get picked for scholarships and apprenticeships. Surprisingly, Morrigan gets 4 BIDS! On their way home from Bid Day, they find out that Eventide is coming a few years too early (1 year to be precise) and now Morrigan will die on her birthday (a few days away) at only 11 years old! But, on the day, she is supposed to die, a mysterious old man called Jupiter North (one of her bidders) comes to her house and whisks her away, to an interesting city called Nevermoor, in the "invitation-only" and secret Free State. Will she escape death? And will she escape the Hunt of Smoke and Shadow, who is hunting her?
What I Thought:
This series (written by Jessica Townsend) is probably one of my favorites ever. (This was written right after finishing the third book...) It is interesting and will have many twists and turns you may not expect.
I loved this book, and though at first, I thought it was a bit boring, but in the end, it will really change your view on this genre.
