When Isabel and her younger sister, Ruth are bought by a Loyalist Couple in 1775, due to the passing of their previous owner, Miss Mary Finch, lives are turned around. She meets Curzon, another slave in New York City on the Patriots' side, he somehow convinces her to spy on her terrible owners, Master and Mrs. Lockton. As the Revolutionary War rages on, she finally finds out, that due to a midnight "spy" meeting with Curzon, her five-year-old sister, Ruth gets shipped back to Rhode Island... and sold. Is America just fighting for its freedom or is Isabel, too? A definite must read, if you are interested in the birth of The United States of America or, just a Historical Fiction lover.
My Thoughts:
How I got introduced to this series was by a friend, but also the school librarian. I was absent for a couple days the week that the Librarian shared this recommendation. When she suggested it, though she'd never read it, I knew it was going to be a good one, and it was!
