“So many firsts. My first time in a car. My first time feeling cool air pressing against my face. My first time saying goodbye to everything I had ever known…” 12-year-old Amal’s dream of becoming a teacher is fading, after she is forced to become a servant in the house of the wealthy & corrupt ruling family of her Pakistani village. All because she accidentally insulted Jawad Sahib, the notorious man-in-charge, even worse than his father. She’s going to have to serve HIM? He who burned orange groves, just because the people couldn’t repay him. After secretly knowing everything the Khan family will do to stay in power, Amal is horrified. With everyone too afraid, how will they remove the Khan family from power? If Amal wants any hope of securing the safety of her loved ones and being able to go back home, she has to find a way to work with the other servants to make it happen. Will she ever get to go home, or will her freedom only be a distant dream?

It opens your eyes to a world you may not know, and it shows you when you have power, some people will go to great lengths to keep it theirs.
