2024: Year in Books

Happy New Year! As 2024 comes to a close, I like to look back and reflect on the books I've read this past year.

My book logging journey began in 2020 when my sixth-grade English teacher introduced a detailed system—tracking the author, number of pages, star rating, and start/finish dates. I've stuck to this practice because it helps me track my reading habits, allows me to look back on my reading, and makes these yearly recaps easy to compile. Over the years, I've simplified the process; nowadays, I only record the title and author, which is more manageable. I keep two lists—one for the school year and one for the calendar year—and also track my reading on Goodreads. This practice is incredibly rewarding, has given me clarity on my reading habits and a sense of validation for the effort I put into reading.

2024 has been an interesting and revealing year for my reading journey. I've always turned to books to relax and decompress, but as I've gotten older and the number of things on my plate has increased, it's been harder to read for long stretches of time as I'd done when I first started this blog. I also love reading in the quiet solace of the night, often until 2 or 3 am, but doing so wreaks a lot of havoc on my sleep schedule so I've cut back on this practice to prioritize my sleep. These changes have naturally led to reading less than I’d like, though still a fair amount. Less time in general means fewer books read and, in turn, fewer reviews shared here over the past year.

I hope that this explains my reduced activity—or rather, my unintended absence—from posting on here. I'm working to prioritize this blog in 2025 and post more consistently in the new year!
